What Is Health Equity, Access, and Literacy?
Health Equity means assuring that everyone is given the opportunity to live the healthiest life possible. Unfortunately, there are many factors such as environment, discrimination, and lack of resources which prevent this from being possible.
Health Access not only means the ability to obtain healthcare services, but requires that it be affordable and convenient. By empowering women, we aim to reduce the barriers hindering accessibility and availability of healthcare services for women involved in the justice system.
Our focus is to empower women through Health Literacy, working to close the gap between those who have access to proper healthcare, and those who do not. Today, incarcerated women have a higher prevalence of health problems than the general public. It is urgent that we take action now. After all, access to equitable health care is fundamental right.
